How to get started with
the ISU IDEA program:
Step One: Take the Pre-Assessment
- Come to the Student Activities Center (third floor of the Student
Union) and ask to take the Developmental Advising Inventory (DAI) pre-assessment.
- You will rank your development within nine dimensions and your satisfaction
with that level of development, and indicate whether you would like
to discuss any particular items.
- You will meet with a member of the IDEA staff who will give you an
orientation to the program and have a file made for you. You will also
be assigned an advisor.
Step Two: Begin using your IDEA Activity Planner
- Activities are divided into "Exploration" and Investment"
categories. Exploration activities are for your personal growth and
should be used as a journaling tool. Investment activities should be
turned in for placement on your transcript.
- You will need to make a photocopy of the Reflection Sheet
in your planner. Fill out this Investment sheet and turn in to IDEA
staff OR print a copy from the IDEA website located
at www.isu.edu/stdorg/lead/idea
and turn that in.
- Complete the form for each Investment activity and turn it in to IDEA
staff at the ASISU Student Activities Center on the third floor of the
Student Union (Box 8138).
- Investment Reflection Sheets require verification of participation,
so be sure to take a copy of the Reflection Sheet with you to the activity.
- These will be added to your IDEA file. Once each semester, certificates
and other recognition premiums will be awarded to students who pursued
"well rounded" development or made special efforts to enhance
one of the "spokes."
Step Three: Create an Activity Transcript
- Start an Activity Transcript in the ASISU Student Activities Center
on the 3rd floor of the Pond Student Union
- An Activity Transcript is designed to serve as a record of your co-curricular
activities in college, including IDEA activities. It can supplement
your academic transcript and resume, and make you more marketable to
potential employers or professional schools.
Step Four: Take the Post-Assessment
- During your last semester at ISU, meet with IDEA staff for an exit
interview. You may also
want to take the Development Advising Inventory (DAI) once again.
- This will measure your growth and change during your college career.
The competencies you have gained will make you better prepared and confident
for a successful life and career.
