What are the Workshops Like?
Our workshops and field studies take place in many spectacular and interesting locations. Generally we begin with classroom activities, multi-media presentations and discussions. Students are then prepared for the field investigations to follow. We spend as much time as possible in the outdoors. No previous experience is required, but you will need to be comfortable in our outdoor classroom. Our workshops are designed to address a diverse audience. PLEASE NOTE THAT SEVERAL OF THE WORKSHOPS REQUIRE CONSIDERABLE HIKING, OFTENTIMES AT ELEVATIONS OF 6000 FEET OR MORE. Please do consider your limitations and if you’re in doubt, please ask -- we are happy to help!
Please come prepared for all kinds of weather – our Idaho weather is predictably unpredictable. Appropriate hiking shoes, warm layers and rain gear are important. Your safety is very important to us and we use all discretion in our field work. Whenever possible, we’ll provide transportation but it may be necessary to carpool to our study sites.
The syllabus for each workshop is available on-line or can be obtained by calling 788-9686 or emailing gertchri@isu.edu. The syllabus contains information about the workshop times, necessary items, extra expenses, local lodging and nearby campgrounds. You are responsible for your own lodging and meals. Each workshop accepts a limited number of participants. Don’t delay -- register today!
Course syllabi are linked to the course titles on the 2009 Schedule page.
Outdoor Study
Please come prepared for any kind of weather – bring raingear, warm clothes, hat, sunscreen, water and snacks. Feel free to call with questions!
Your safety is very important to us and we use all discretion in our field work. As portions of nearly all of our programs are conducted in the field, participants should be able to walk short distances and be ready to spend much of the day outside. Please be aware of your own limitations!
As noted, some of the workshops require moderate to more difficult hiking. Please remember that the hiking takes place at 6,000 feet and above. If possible, we will provide vans, but please be prepared to carpool.
