School of Performing Arts: Music

Welcome!

Whether you want a career in music or just the pleasure of performing or listening, there are courses of interest for you at ISU. The Department of Music offers a variety of music degrees and a music minor.

New Students

An audition is required for admission as a music major, music minor, or for scholarship. The Audition Days this year are scheduled for February 22 and March 15. You may fill out the Audition/Scholarship Form online by clicking apply now at the bottom of this page or Call 208-282-3636 or write to the music office (e-mail: music@isu.edu) to obtain the form.

Facilities

The Department of Music is located in the Fine Arts Building, which includes a 450-seat recital hall called Goranson Hall. Most Music Department concerts are performed in the 1200-seat Joseph C. & Cheryl H. Jensen Grand Concert Hall, which opened in 2005. This beautiful concert hall is located in the L.E. & Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center.

Music Ensembles

A variety of performing music ensembles are available to ISU students. Some ensembles are also open to community members. These performing groups include bands, choirs, orchestra, and chamber ensembles.

Scholarships / Auditions

Now is the time to apply for your music audition. Applications are being accepted for the 2014-15 academic year. Auditions are by apppointment and should be scheduled in advance. Auditions are heard for both admittance to the program and/or for scholarship opportunities.

Auditions for the 2014-15 academic year will be held on:
February 22, 2014 &
March 15, 2014

Scholarships are available to both majors and nonmajors for participation in music ensembles. All scholarships are awarded on the basis of an audition. You may fill out the Audition/Scholarship Form by clicking Apply Now or Call 208-282-3636 or write to the music office (e-mail: music@isu.edu) to obtain the form.

The Department of Music is a fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music.

Spotlight on Music

Student Chamber Music Night

April 7, 7:30pm
Jensen Grand Concert Hall in the Stephens Performing Arts Center

ISU music students will present classical pieces in ensembles from 2 to 6 members. Admission is free.
Due to emergency renovations, Student Chamber Night has been relocated from Goranson Hall to the Jensen Grand Concert Hall.

ISU Guitar Ensemble

The ISU Guitar Ensemble will present works by classical composers for guitar.
Due to emergency renovations, the ISU Guitar Ensemble performance has been relocated from Goranson Hall to the Jensen Grand Concert Hall.
