Graduate Admissions

Prerequisites

For full admission to the graduate program in sociology, the student must have completed the following courses or their equivalents.

  • SOC 1101 - Introduction to Sociology
  • SOC 2207 - Social Statistics
  • SOC 2206 - Sociological Methods
  • SOC 3301/4403 - Classical Social Theory and Contemporary Social Theory

To apply, students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) for the most recent 60 undergraduate credits or permission from Gesine Hearn.

All applicants with a GPA below 3.5 must take the GRE and score in the 40th percentile or above in one of the three GRE sections.

Three letters of recommendation must accompany the application.
