Idaho Promise Scholarship

Idaho State University is the only four-year public institution in the state that matches this Scholarship for eligible NEW incoming freshman (never having received a Promise B award elsewhere).

The Robert R. Lee Promise Category B Scholarship is a state-sponsored scholarship program designed to encourage Idaho students to do well in school, graduate, and continue their education beyond secondary school at an Idaho college or university. State funding for the Robert R. Lee Promise Category B scholarship was originally appropriated during the 2001 legislative session to fund an inaugural class of eligible students entering college for the first time in the 2001-02 academic year. The legislature has once again appropriated funding for the class of eligible students entering college for the 2013-14 academic year. The amount of the Promise Category B Scholarship is determined annually. Note: The Promise B Scholarship will end aid year 2013/2014. The Promise B Scholarship will be replaced (Tier 5 only) by the "New" Bengal Incremental Scholarship Program for aid year 2014/2015.

Who is eligible?

Idaho residents (must have U.S. citizenship or Permanent Resident status) who graduate from an Idaho high school or its equivalent and who are entering college as a degree seeking student for the first time in the 2012-13 academic year. Students must have earned a cumulative high school grade point average (GPA) of at least a 3.00, an ACT composite score of 20 or better, or SAT of 940 (in Critical Reading and Math only). Students also must be under the age of 22 prior to July 1 of the year of the award and attend an eligible Idaho college or university full-time (12 credits each semester).

Students who meet all the above criteria except the high school GPA and ACT or SAT minimum can come into compliance and begin receiving the Idaho Promise/ISU Matching award after completing one full-time semester (12 credits) with a 2.5 college GPA. Please contact the Scholarship Office immediately following your first full-time semester at ISU and ask to be considered.

Transfer students may be eligible if they received less than four semesters of the Idaho Promise Scholarship at their former Idaho school and maintained the required criteria. No matching funds are provided. Please contact the ISU Scholarship Office to see if you are eligible for continuation of the Idaho Promise at ISU.

How much is the scholarship?

The Robert R. Lee Promise Category B Scholarship can be worth up to $500 per year ($250 per semester) depending on state funding. The estimated amount for 2013-14 academic year is $400 ($200 per semester) and is renewable for a second year if all scholarship criteria are met (successful completion of 12 credits each semester with a cumulative college GPA of 2.5). Remember, ISU will match the Robert R. Lee Promise Category B Scholarship (provided the student has never received Promise B elsewhere) during the student's 3rd and 4th year at ISU if the student passes 24 credits each year and has a cumulative gpa of 3.00 or higher. Promise B funding is contingent on State Board of Education funding each Academic Year and is subject to change.
