Scholarship Information - Graduate Students

As a graduate student at Idaho State University, you can find scholarship opportunities through your major department or college. They will have scholarship funds available annually and/or semesterly. You will find additional scholarship opportunities by visiting the Scholarship Office web site regularly. See the Open Scholarships List for an up-to-date list of what we know is open for application right now, along with links to downloadable application forms and detailed announcements. As soon as we find out about an opportunity, we will post it there. You are encouraged to check it often. If you would rather check on these scholarship opportunities in person, you can visit the Scholarship Office (Museum Bldg., 3rd floor) to view the announcements and to pick up application forms.

The bulk of our scholarships come available in the Spring months for awarding in the next academic year, however you will see some open up at other times during the year.

Some scholarship awarding is based on demonstrated financial need. To be considered for any need-based awards, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Priority processing of financial aid (FAFSA) applications begins on March 1st each year. Some types of financial aid are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Therefore, it's a good idea to submit your FAFSA by the priority processing deadline. The FAFSA is available online at http://www.fafsa.gov. If you need assistance with the FAFSA, please contact the ISU Financial Aid Office at (208) 282-2756.

Non-resident tuition waivers for graduate students are awarded through the Graduate School at Idaho State University. You will need to complete the Graduate Non-Resident Tuition Waiver application form included with the Graduate Admissions Application. The application deadlines for Graduate Non-Resident Tuition Waiver consideration are May 1st for fall entry and December 1st for spring entry. PLEASE NOTE that the application deadlines for admittance to the Graduate School are different than these NRTW application deadlines and some graduate programs may have much earlier application for admission deadlines than does the Graduate School (check with the department). Application forms are available from:

While the Scholarship Office web site and your major department are good resources for finding out about scholarship opportunities at ISU, these should not be the only resources you use. There are also outside scholarship resources where you can search databases for scholarship opportunities that pertain to your situation or background. A brief list is linked from this web site under Outside Scholarship Resources, but there are many others to be found online. There are plenty of free databases to choose from, so there's no reason to pay for these services. Check with family and friends to see what scholarship opportunities they may know about. As you can see, scholarship resources are virtually limitless, so don't limit yourself to just a few.
