Chemical Hygiene

Idaho State University strives to provide a safe and healthy workplace for its faculty, staff, students and visitors.

Chemical Hygiene at ISU involves the proper storage, use and disposal of chemicals located in laboratories, research and clinics, as well as in facility operations.

Each college, department, research center, institute, or office (hereafter referred to as “unit”) is responsible for complying with all applicable Federal and State regulations concerning hazardous chemical use, proper safety provisions, management, and disposal.

The Director of the Technical Safety Officer is the University’s primary Chemical Hygiene compliance resource. The Vice President for Research, to whom the Technical Safety Office Director reports, has overall responsibility for chemical hygiene throughout the University.

Best practices and requirements for chemical hygiene at ISU can be found in the Chemical Hygiene Plan.

Participation in the ISU Chemical Inventory is part of the Chemical Hygiene safety plan for all campus facilities.

The following links lead to the Chemoventory website and database. The instructions provide details on how to login and complete an inventory entry for your unit.

Contact the Technical Safety Office at 282-2310 for help with the process.
