Technical Safety Office

The Technical Safety Office (TSO) provides oversight and service to the University to ensure the protection of human health and the environment by sound management of:

  • radiation
  • radioactive materials
  • hazardous and infectious waste
  • chemicals in use by faculty, staff and students on the ISU campuses.

  • General safety including compliance with general State Industrial Commission
  • Microwave safety
  • Construction safety
  • Management of non-hazardous solid waste such as garbage, rubbish, paper or cardboard refuse, and non-contaminated glass.

You may also anonymously report safety concerns or non-compliance by calling 1-800-716-9007 or online, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  

Concerns related to your physical safety or security should be reported to the ISU Department of Public Safety at (208) 282-2515 or on the web.

Remember: Individuals have the right to raise safety concerns. Regulations prohibit retaliation against individuals for exercising their right.
