Human Subjects Committee Fees
Application fees are charged only for human subject research proposals which are funded by private industry and reviewed by the full committee (there are no charges for Exemptions and Expedited Reviews). Such fees are for the HSC review only: they have no influence on HRC decisions. The funds are used to partially defray some of the expense of running the HSC. The fee schedule is as follows:
• Initial Review $1,500
• Renewals (if a meeting of the full board is required) $500
• Modifications (if a meeting of the full board is required) $500
Proration: If a proposed research project is only partly funded by industry, fees may be prorated proportionately to the industry’s (or industries’) share of study’s funding.
Waivers/Refunds: The HSC Chair, at his or her discretion, may waive all or part of these fees when warranted by the situation. PIs may request fee waivers or reductions. These requests must be made in writing, addressed to the HSC Chair, and provide reasons for supporting the request. The HSC Chair will respond in writing to all such requests.
Fees are refundable only if the research proposal is withdrawn prior to its review by the HSC. Fees are not refunded if the HSC reviews the research proposal and either does not approve it or requires modifications.
