Students on Patrol
ISU Public Safety is pleased to announce that students enrolled in the students on patrol program can now receive academic credit!
Students On Patrol (SOP) is a volunteer program designed to give ISU students a chance to become actively involved in preventing crime on campus and assist Public Safety in detecting and preventing crime on campus.
Participants in the Program receive 10 hours of training that involves safety practices, patrol procedures, radio usage and surveillance techniques.
After completing their initial training, participants are given partners with whom they patrol campus on assigned shifts during the evening hours. Participants decide what shifts they will work and work on a voluntary basis.
SOP participants patrol campus in an "observe and report" capacity. They also provide information to visitors, and notify the on-duty Public Safety Officers whenever they observe suspicious activity. SOP participants do not make contact with suspicious persons.
Participants carry a two way radio and wear the SOP jacket while on patrol. Participants can patrol on foot, bike, car or rollerblade.
Students wishing to enroll in the Students on Patrol Program for Academic Credit need to contact Sgt. Ryan Kendall at 282-5935.
