Bicycles are regulated pursuant to the Human Powered
Vehicle Policy.
Registration is free at the Public Safety Office, Building 27, 282-2515
or complete and submit the online form.
Bicycle Registration through the City of Pocatello can be done at any Fire Station for $.50
Facts:
- Over 2.1 million bicycles have been reported stolen in the U.S. in the past three years. This figure is probably higher, as many bicycles are never reported stolen.
- Over 75% of bicycle theft victims who reported the crime received no insurance money.
- The $1,000 lock guarantees are difficult to collect because of restrictions and limitations.
- A thief who breaks a lock will almost always take the broken lock so there is no evidence. Lock guarantees require the broken lock as proof of lock failure.
- For every auto theft in this country, three bikes are stolen. While 66% of stolen autos are recovered, less than 20% of bikes are returned.
Don't let a thief steal your bicycle!
- Use a good bicycle locking device. A U type lock, or a high security padlock with a case hardened six foot cable is recommended.
- Secure both wheels and the frame to bike rack.
- Personalize the bicycle for easy identification. One effective technique is to remove stripes placed by the manufacturer, and then paint your own using weather resistant paint.
- Engrave identification number on the underside of the frame's diagonal bar near the crank housing, on the wheels near the valve stem, the crank, derailleur, front forks, etc. Cover engraving with clear fingernail polish to prevent rusting.
