Dear Friend of Idaho State University,
On any given day on the Idaho State University campus, you will see students rushing down the sidewalks to their next class, studying in cozy chair in one of our buildings, or even chatting with friends in the Pond Student Union bowling alley.
But a closer look reveals that our students are doing much more than simply attending classes or gaining a social college experience.
Last weekend, more than 80 students were at Reed Gym, teaming up with community volunteers to offer free flu shots, dental exams, haircuts, sleeping bags, meals and more to more than 100 homeless people in Southeast Idaho.
In November, four of our talented music students will audition for the Metropolitan Opera, a once-in-a-lifetime experience, during Idaho State University's Opera Week. In performances throughout the year, our arts students are able to offer a world-class experience for the entire community.
Seeing the need for more recycling opportunities on campus, Idaho State University students decided to do something. Teaming up with Facilities Services, they were able to bring 350 new recycling bins to the university, one for every classroom on campus.
Students are the driving force behind all we do at Idaho State University, but they are also much more. At Idaho State University, our students are our greatest assets. They offer new ideas and new opportunities for us all to continue to learn. Every day I see driven, hard-working and intelligent future leaders in our classrooms, laboratories and on our playing fields.
I imagine you have seen them too. They are also out in our communities, providing quality health care through our clinics. They are volunteering in locations all around the world, making a difference wherever they go and spreading the good news about what it really means to be a Bengal. At Idaho State University, we are proud to be a part of it.
