Morris K. Udall Scholarship
In honor of the late Member of Congress, Morris K. Udall, the 103d Congress passed legislation in 1992 authorizing The Morris K. Udall Scholarship and Excellence in National Environmental Policy Foundation to award scholarships to undergraduate students who intend to pursue careers related to environmental public policy or who are Native American or Alaska Native undergraduate students who intend to pursue careers in health care or tribal public policy.
The Foundation will award approximately 55 scholarships of up to $5,000 for school-related expenses for one academic year. Each four-year institution of higher education can nominate up to six candidates for this prestigious award.
Criteria:
- Each candidate should be in the sophomore or junior year at the time of nomination
- Each candidate must have at least a 3.00 GPA and be in the upper fourth of his or her class
- Each candidate must be a U.S. citizen, a permanent resident, or, in the case of nominees from American Samoa or the Commonwealth of the Mariana Islands
Materials Required:
- Each candidate must be nominated by his or her college using the official nomination materials
- The nominee must write a no more than 600 word-long essay citing, in the student's opinion, on the major achievements of Member of Congress Udall and what those achievements mean to the nominee
- Three letters of recommendation
- Transcripts of college grades
Internal Process:
- Information and the request for consideration forms may be obtained from the College of Arts and Letters, at the Business Administration Building, Room no. 248. The Faculty Representative is Dr. Alan Frantz, Assistant Dean of the College of Arts and Letters.
- Forms are also available from the ISU Scholarship Office, in 327 Museum Building, 236-3315.
Deadline:
- To be considered for nomination, you must have your completed form returned to the Assistant Dean of the College of Arts and Letters by the deadline date, which is yet to be determined, but which will likely be around the beginning of Spring Semester. The exact deadline date will be posted on this Homepage when it becomes available. ISU nominees will be selected shortly thereafter, and can begin working on their applications.
