Harry S. Truman Scholarship
ISU students pursuing careers in public service are encouraged to apply for the Harry S. Truman Scholarship. Scholars are eligible to receive $3,000 for their senior year of undergraduate education, and $27,000 for graduate studies. Scholars in graduate programs planning to receive degrees in one to two years are eligible to receive $13,500 per year. Scholars in programs requiring three or more years of academic study are eligible to receive $9,000 per year for a maximum of three years.
To be eligible, a student must be a full-time junior-level student pursuing a bachelor's degree during the year that they apply for the scholarship, committed to a career in public service, must be in the upper quarter of his/her class, and a United States citizen or a United States national from American Samoa or the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. Students must be nominated by their institutions.
Each fall semester, an announcement is sent to faculty with a November deadline for applications. For more information, students may visit the website www.truman.gov or contact Dr. Mark McBeth at 208-282-2740 or the Department of Political Science at 282-2211.
