The Bistline Political Science Scholarship
In 1998, two academic scholarship funds were established by Beverly B. Bistline for Idaho State University Political Science majors headed to law school and careers in public service. Ms. Bistline, a former state legislator and Pocatello attorney now retired, has been a major philanthropic contributor to ISU. She created the F.M. Bistline Political Science Scholarship on behalf of her late father to be awarded to a worthy male Political Science major.
The Beverly Bistline Political Science Scholarship was established to be awarded to a qualified female Political Science major. The scholarships are awarded for one year in the recipients senior year and pay $7,500 toward student fees, supplies, and living expenses. Eligibility is limited to Political Science majors who are currently juniors and will be full time seniors next year. Students must also have a minimum 3.0 grade point average (GPA), must demonstrate past involvement in public service (government service, political campaigns, campus politics, or community activities), and have future goals oriented toward attending law school and public service.
To apply for these scholarships you will need to fill out an application and submit it to the ISU Scholarship Office. Part of the application process is a written statement of past and present accomplishments, future goals, and why you believe you should receive the scholarship. A recent unofficial transcript with a current class schedule should also be included in the application packet. Finally, students are encouraged to secure letters of recommendation on their behalf.
Applications are available at the ISU Scholarship Office or at this web link. Applications will be reviewed by the Political Science Scholarship Committee and by Ms. Bistline. Due dates are the month of March or early April. Contact the department for current year due date. For any questions or more information, students may contact the ISU Scholarship Office at 282-3315 or the Department of Political Science at 282-2211.
