D. The Coordinating Board

1. General

The Coordinating Board brings together representatives of major constituent groups for the purpose of clarifying constituent positions and facilitating collegial cooperation.

2. Membership

This body, broadly representative and yet small enough to be efficient, is comprised of the following:

a. Vice President for Academic Affairs

b. Financial Vice President

c. Dean of Student Affairs

d. Two Representatives of Academic Deans

e. Faculty Senate Chairperson

f. Faculty Senate Vice Chairperson

g. Two Faculty Senate Representatives

h. President of the Associated Students of Idaho State University

i. Student Senate Representative

j. Classified Employees Council Representative

k. Council of Professional Employees Representative

In addition, the President of the University (or a designated representative) may attend at his/her discretion.

3. Role

The Coordinating Board has neither jurisdiction nor veto power over Faculty Senate, Student Senate, or any other body. It functions strictly as a facilitating group. In particular, it:

a. Coordinates the flow of information about policy matters to the various groups represented in the body;

b. acts as a coordinating body when policy generated by the University committee requires discussion involving the various campus constituencies;

c. facilitates implementation of policy involving several constituencies.

4. Duties

The Coordinating Board:

a. Encourages the development of clear, thorough, and consistent policies by stimulating collegial discussion and analysis of policy proposals.

b. Reduces considerably the time spent in referring policies that need to be discussed by various constituencies.

c. Facilitates cooperation and communication among major constituencies of the University, and thereby enhances the unity of the University community.

d. Opens up such differences as occur among the various constituencies to discussion and reconciliation in a single forum.

5. Meetings

The Faculty Senate Vice Chair will notify members of the Coordinating Board in writing during the first two weeks of the fall semester and convene a meeting if and when any one member of the Board requests. (Rev. 10-91)
