Hiking

Close in, the Mink Creek corridor on the Caribou-Targhee National Forest features a baker's dozen trails for hiking and mountain biking. Closer to campus, City Creek is Pocatello's favorite walk, Gibson Jack, located on the south end of Pocatello is a great place to see moose, and 1.5 miles from the main campus hikers can walk up the spine of Chinese Peak. In Idaho Falls, the greenway trail along the Snake River is paved and popular. Within a 1.5 to 3-hour driving radius there are stellar hiking areas, from the Grand Teton Mountains in Wyoming, to lesser known ranges in Idaho such as the 11,000-foot plus Lemhi Range located less than an hour from Idaho Falls. Again, too many hiking/backpacking options to mention. Trips and rentals available through OAC. The Portneuf Greenway Foundation maintains a series of paved trails within Pocatello.
