COURSE DESCRIPTION:  This course is designed to provide the opportunity for students to gain the knowledge and skills of basic rock climbing in a safe and enjoyable manner.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:  The goal of this class is to achieve the following:
    1.  To develop an appreciation of rock climbing with a safe and environmentslly sound approach.
    2.  The ability to demonstrate basic rock climbing techniques.
    3.  The ability to properly use rock climbing equipment in a safe manner.

MAKING THE GRADE:  This class is attendance and performance oriented.  Each student will be evaluated on their attendance record and the ability to correctly and safely demonstrate the skills taught in the class.  Attendance counts for 50%; Quizzes and written reports count for 20%; Final exam counts for 30% of overall grade.

This book is available at reduced student rate at Scott's Ski and Sports.  It is also available in the Outdoor Program library, however, it can not be checked out.

INSTRUCTOR'S NOTE:  Due to the inherent danger involved with rock climbing, I reserve the right to remove from the class any students(s) who expose themselves and/or other class participants to unnecessary danger by means of improper execution of technique, poor judgment, and/or lack of concern for safety.
