Summit Overview
The purpose of the think tank and summit is to analyze the state of the science and make
recommendations regarding the use of theory in rural health research.
Rural health research needs include understanding rural health research priorities and processes. There
is no national rural research agenda, method of analyzing study quality, and few collaborative
mechanisms to increase the number of studies or sample size. There analysis of health theories,
frameworks and models’ is expected to increase the quality of research designs as well as the numbers
of completed studies published.
The Summit is the first activity in a yearlong process where work groups in a task force will produce a
publication with research trends, issues, and recommendations. The publication will be presented in a
2013 summit.
