“Redirecting Rural Health Research: A Think Tank Summit”

Idaho Falls, Idaho* August 8-10, 2012
The Summit begins a yearlong process to study the impact of rural health theory and research on patient health outcomes. The summit will be followed by a yearlong evaluation of rural researchers’ needs, trends, issues, use of theory, study barriers, strengths and weaknesses. The workgroups will make recommendations to improve rural health science. A publication presentation will occur at a summit in 2013.

The Rural Health Research Think Tank Summit provides opportunities to create:
- Research Networks and Projects
- A publication of a nine month work group that includes:
- Literature Review
- Descriptions and uses of rural health theories
- Evidence, issues, strengths, weaknesses, and recommendations
- A Rural Health Research priority list
Summit Objectives:
- Describe the impact of rural health theories on residents’ quality of life.
- Seek innovative strategies to promote excellence in rural health research.
- Advance the science of health care using innovation and new technologies.
- Explore opportunities for research collaborations.
- Create a national task force for evaluation of research best practices.
- Evaluate the implications of the use of theory on rural study designs.
Submission Deadline: January 30, 2012
Abstracts of all translational research levels demonstrating a direct link to the theme of redirecting rural health research are invited.
Sessions will serve as a networking forum to bring together researchers, educators, administrators, clinicians and policy makers to address the role of rural research on health care reforms. Presentation of current research findings, and collaborative studies about the future of rural health research will further scholarship of rural populations.
