Redirecting Rural Research Summit
August 8-10, 2012

Paper presentations and panel activities from researchers across the country are planned. In addition four keynote speakers will address various aspects of rural health research. The Summit and Think Tank seek to answer the question: What is needed to improve rural health research? Participants are invited to apply for think tank positions. More about the think tank will be posted in the future. A white paper with recommendations for future studies will be published September 2013.

 

Brock Slabach, MPH, FACHE, a Sr. Vice-President for the National Rural Health Association, will address rural health in the United States.

Thomas C. Ricketts III, PhD, MPH is a professor of Health Policy and Management in Social Medicine at the University of North Carolina Schools of Global Public Health and Medicine and co-director of the American College of Surgeons Institute for Health Policy Research. Dr. Ricketts is editor of the North Carolina Medical Journal and past editor of the Journal of Rural Health. Dr Rickets will discuss rural health research in a health care reform setting.

Charlene Winters- PhD, APRN, ACNS-BC is an associate professor in nursing at Montana State University where she teaches research and scholarship with a focus on rural health issues. Dr Winters is supporter of rural nursing theory development and editor of Rural Nursing Concepts, Theory and Practice. Her research is in adaptation and responses to illness, and chronic illness self-management. Her presentation explores rural research theoretical foundations

Kris Crusoe EdD, RN Recently retired as associate dean of learning at Southwestern Oregon Community College. She currently facilitates program development and research using appreciative inquiry for multiple facilities and organizations. She travels and teaches Health Systems and Organizational Leadership in the Oregon Health Sciences College of Nursing programs.
