I served four years in the Marine Corps as a radio operator. I had no idea what I was in for when I started going to ISU last semester and had many worries about how classes would be conducted, how my grades would look, and if I’d even be able to find my classes on what appeared to be to me a large campus. However, when I attended New Student Orientation every question I had was answered, and I was instantly accepted and involved in the Veteran’s Sanctuary. It was a great place to study and it was awesome being around like minded veteran’s my age that answered any questions I had. I encourage you to come to the NSO (New Student Orientation) and Veteran’s Sanctuary, and wish you luck on your journey to your new college career.
Without the Veterans Sanctuary’s help, I would have never known the impressive amount of resources available to me. As an active Guardsman, the Sanctuary helped me wade through the muddy waters of Army Tuition Assistance and VA benefits; alone I might not have gotten it right. With the Sanctuary’s help, I found that ISU is very vet friendly, with extended tutoring, designated vet academic advisers, and even a scholarship for my wife.
