The Idaho State University Office of Alumni Relations has hired Teresa Borrenpohl as its new assistant director, announced KC Felt, ISU alumni director. Borrenpohl comes from Great Bend, Kan. She attended Montana State University. Borrenpohl served as Student Body President while completing her Bachelors of Science degree in economics. She then served on the Board of Regents of Higher Education for the state of Montana. During this time, she earned her Master of Science degree in public administration.
She lives in Pocatello with her husband, Craig. Together they enjoy mountain biking, skiing and running. Prior to accepting a position with the Office of Alumni Relations, Teresa served as the Scholarship Coordinator at the Eastern Idaho Technical College Foundation in Idaho Falls.
In her new position, Borrenpohl will be responsible for the development and coordination of the annual I Love ISU scholarship campaign. She will work with area alumni and community members to expand and grow the campaign into other areas of Idaho. She will also work with the director to increase alumni outreach for all colleges of ISU and develop new opportunities for engaging ISU alumni.
Borrenpohl will also develop alumni groups and chapters in areas where there are substantial numbers of ISU alumni. She will lead alumni efforts in making connections through ISU athletics with events and tailgate activities. New programs will also be part of her position in establishing and coordinating a new ISU Student Alumni Group, an enhanced mentoring program and an alumni membership program.
Geoffrey Friedley, tenor and Diana Livingston Friedley, soprano, along with Mark Neiwirth, pianist, will perform Hugo Wolf's Italienisches Liederbuch throughout the Snake River area this fall. Specifically, Brigham Young University-Idaho, Sept. 19; College of Southern Idaho, Sept. 21, and Opera Idaho in Boise, Sept. 23. The Friedleys fell in love with this monumental collection of forty-six translated Italian songs several years ago. They performed the entire collection last year at ISU and at the University of Utah with pianist Jeffrey Price. They are delighted to embark on this tour with ISU colleague Mark Neiwirth.
Jacqueline Freudenthal published a paper entitled "Risk Management in Pain Control," and Elena Francisco, recent alumnus, co-authored a paper with Vicki Dodge, current MSDH student, entitled "Identify Moderate Caries Risk." Both articles appeared in the August 2012 issue of Dimensions of Dental Hygiene.

The Pocatello Branch of the American Association of University Women is still seeking book donations in preparation for its annual used book sale, scheduled for Oct. 5-6 at the ISU Reed Gymnasium.
Persons with donations may leave them in the large box in the entryway to the ISU Continuing Education Building located at 1001 N. Seventh Street during business hours on week days.
AAUW does not accept magazines, textbooks or Reader's Digest Condensed Books, but all other hard-bound and paperback books are appreciated. Proceeds from the annual sale are used for AAUW educational projects, including scholarships.
Persons interested in joining AAUW are invited to visit the website at AAUW.org to learn more about the organization. Membership in AAUW is open to anyone holding an associate or equivalent, baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Student Affiliation is open to anyone who does not already hold an undergraduate degree and is enrolled in a two-or four-year regionally accredited educational institution. Students enrolled at Idaho State University, a college/university partner member, receive a free e-student affiliation.
The first Great Idaho State University Ambush, an approximately 5-kilometer mud and obstacle team race, will be held Sept. 8.
"Get ready to bare your claws and dirty your paws for the first annual Great ISU Ambush," said Larissa Kimball, ISU recruitment specialist and a race organizer. "Get ready to slosh through mud pits, hurdle over hay walls, run through tires, and trek over the rugged ridge trails on the ISU campus."
The late registration fee is $85 per team from through Sept. 3. Day of race registration is $100. A portion of these funds will be used to support local charities. The race is sponsored by ISU Recruitment Services.
The race will begin at Bartz Field on the ISU Pocatello campus, near the new Miller Ranch Stadium. The course will feature 15 different obstacles and is designed to challenge participants' skills.
"You and your team will traverse the endless nets that will ensnare your ambush, slosh through bottomless mud pits designed to slow the track of any tiger, scale high walls, trudge the endless hill only to realize it's not over, and you'll have much, much more to finish," Kimball said. "You'll want to rely on each ambush member to get through all 15 obstacles."

The Idaho State University Counseling and Testing Service presents the fourth annual Wellness Symposium on Sept.6, 7 and 8 in the Pond Student Union in Pocatello. The theme for this year's symposium is "Strategies for Abundant Living" and will offer presentations by mental health professionals to enhance therapeutic effectiveness and personal growth. Although the symposium is geared toward mental health professionals and students in the professions, everyone is welcome to attend. Topics include fostering self-esteem, living with purpose, positive sexual self-concept among trauma survivors, couple counseling, group process, ethics, and much more! Continuing education units are available for a nominal fee. If CEU's are not requested, there is no fee to attend.

This fall semester, Idaho State University Central Academic Advising will present the second annual semester-long student success and retention series "Harvest Your Potential."
This program consists of student success presentations and activities scheduled throughout the semester. Students who participate in eight or more of these events - including one fair, one meeting with an academic advisor, and one meeting with a career counselor - throughout the semester will be invited to an end-of-semester student recognition event held on Dec. 5.
Attendance at "Harvest Your Potential" events will be verified through use of a punch card; punch cards are available at Central Academic Advising in Room 307 Museum Building and the Student Success Center in Room 323 of the Rendezvous Complex.
Freshman, sophomore and undecided students will specifically be encouraged to participate in this interactive, hands-on series through campus-wide advertising, incentives, and instructor and faculty support and promotion.

Two next-door-neighbors in the area scorched by the Charlotte wildfire on June 28 (one lost her house, the other was spared by a narrow margin) have begun a project to help make the Charlotte Drive, Caribou, Cinnamon Ridge, Autumn Lane, and Gibson Jack areas bloom again. Participating involves only a little time and effort and minimal expense.
The Charlotte's Garden Project asks gardening neighbors across Southeast Idaho to save seeds from their plantings through the summer and fall and pass them on to those affected by the fire. Those who suffered damage will be informed about what's donated and invited to gather for seed-sharing days in the early fall, when they can collect free seeds and either plant them before the fall rains (if appropriate for the variety) or save them for spring planting. The Project is hoping to receive perennial, biennial, wildflower, and annual (especially self-sowing annual) flower seeds, along with vegetable seeds. Donation of iris and day lily divisions, along with other plant material, is also possible by special arrangement.
