The Idaho State University Department of Counseling will host a seminar on psychopharmacology and neurobiology this fall at the ISU-Meridian Health Science Center. The seminar will occur on Oct. 2 and 3, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Topics for the conference will include basic concepts in neurological development, the impact of the diabetes and obesity epidemic on mental well-being, new strategies in the treatments for depression, the role and treatment of addiction in Axis I and Axis II illness, and many more.

The workshop is divided into two classes that stand-alone for contact hour purposes, but can be combined to earn graduate credit. The first day will start with a brief overview of basic neurobiology and pharmacology in order to establish a rationale for why a drug could have a beneficial effect upon one’s mood, thought or cognition. The second day will feature more disease and treatment-oriented discussion. Seven contact hours are available if you attend one day, or, if you attend both days, 15 contact hours or one graduate credit are available.
