Turner Rites Held Friday


Theodore F. Turner, Father of ISC

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon for Theodore F. Turner, the "father of Idaho State College", in the Masonic Temple. Mr. Turner died early last week at the age of 82.

Rose Croix services of the Scotish Rite Consistory were presented. Burial was in the family plot in the Mount Moriah cemetary. Ritualistic services were by members of the Keystone lodge No. 81, A. F. and A. M.

Pens Bill
Mr. Turner was the author of the bill that created the Academy of Idaho, one of hte three predecessors of ISC, in 1901. In more recent years he was one of the leaders in the fight to make ISC a four year school.

Mr. Turner was born May 4, 1868 in Ringgold, Ohio. He was the son of Lewis James and Lydia Drake Turner.

Holds Posts
He came west as a young man and became prominent in Republican politics. During his career he was state auditor, a member of the legislature, acting postmaster of Pocatello, mayor of Pocatello, and deputy clerk of the federal court.

Survivors include his widow, the former Lucy Petty; two sons, Theodore J. Turner, Pocatello and Fred D. Turner, San Francisco; and one sister, Mrs. Mary Gladden, Springfield, Ohio.

All classes and administrative offices at ISC were closed for the funeral.
