Dictionaries

The Cambridge Dictionary of Statistics (Reference Collection: QA 276.15 E 84 2002): This dictionary contains short definitions of topics in statistics, such as theories, theorists, formulae and equations, and so on. A list of entries and index are not available in this dictionary.

The Oxford Dictionary of Statistical Terms (Reference Collection: HA 17. K 4 2003): The brief definitions of statistics and statistical terms in this dictionary also include formulae and equations. This dictionary is not indexed and does not have a list of entries.

A Topical Dictionary of Statistics (Reference Collection: QA 276.14 T 54 1986): This dictionary of statistics and statistical terms contains chapter-length articles on major topics in statistics, including regression, experiment design, multivariate analysis, and more. Both a table of contents and an index are available.

Encyclopedias

International Encyclopedia of Statistics (Reference Collection: HA 17. I 63): This two volume encyclopedia contains in-depth articles on theorists, mathematicians and statisticians, theories, equations, formulae, concepts, and more. A complete list of entries can be found in volume one; volume two contains a cumulative index.

Handbooks

Handbook of Probability and Statistics with Tables (Reference Collection: QA 273. B 925 1970): This handbook is designed to help students and researchers of different disciplines and with different training understand and use different equations, theories, and formulaes in their own projects. A table of contents and an index are available.

Web Sites

Bureau of the Census: The Census Bureau's official Web site is the premier source for demographic and statistical data on the United States.

Electronic Statistics Textbook: This Web site is the digital version of a statistics text book and includes a glossary, tables and charts, and more. This Web site contains topics ranging from introductory to advanced.

INFOMINE: INFOMINE is a special database that searches for Web site and documents that most search engines miss, primarily Web pages and documents on university Web sites. This database is developed and maintained by the Library of the University of California, Riverside.

Librarians' Internet Index: Collected and annotated by librarians, this site contains a searchable database of high quality Web sites. To find a Web site, browse the available topics or use the search box.

Research Methods and Statistics Resources: Developed by the Department of Psychology at Georgetown University, this Web site is a great reference point for statistics beginners. It includes a short glossary of basic statistical formulae, guides to descriptive and inferential statistics, and links to more statistics sites.

WISE: Web Interface for Statistics Education: Claremont Graduate University has created this resource for education in statistics. It includes online tools for statistical problems, tutorials, and more.
