Dictionaries
Dictionary of Sociology (Reference Collection: HM 425. D 5735 2005): This dictionary defines terms and concepts in sociology and
social theory. Also included are short biographical articles on sociologists, philosophers, and social theorists. This book does not have a
table of contents and is not indexed.
The Harper-Collins Dictionary of Sociology (Reference Collection: HM 17. J 37 1991): This dictionary contains brief definitions of
concepts, theories, and topics of interest in sociology. Also included are brief biographical articles on sociologists and social thinkers. This book
is not indexed and does not have a table of contents.
Encyclopedias
Blackwell Encyclopedia of Sociology (Reference Collection: HM 425. B 53 2007): This 11 volume encyclopedia covers a truly
wide range of topics in sociology including gender, the Internet, politics and social issues, social behavior and scripting, law, and more.
A cumulative index can be found in the last volume.
Encyclopedia of Social Issues (Reference Collection: HN 57. E 59 1997): This encyclopedia contains hundreds of articles on topics of
interest in sociology, social history, and related fields. Each volume of this six volume set contains its own table of contents. A cumulative index
can be found in volume six.
Encyclopedia of Social Theory (Reference Collection: HM 425. E 47 2005): This two part encyclopedia contains articles on sociologists
and social theorists, as well as articles on sociological theories and ideas. A table of contents can be found in the first part. The second part of
this encyclopedia has a cumulative index, as well as a bibliography and chronology of social theory.
Encyclopedia of Sociology (Reference Collection: HM 425. E 5 2000): This five volume encyclopedia contains extensive articles on concepts,
theories, and topics of interest in sociology, including schools of thought. This encyclopedia has a table of contents (volume one) and a
cumulative index (volume five).
Handbooks, Thesauri, and Statistics
American Attitudes (Reference Collection: HN 90. P 8 A 527 2005): This source contains polling and opinion data from the National
Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago. The data covers topics such as political and legal issues, religion, social issues,
labor, and more. Indexed.
The Student Sociologist's Handbook (Reference Collection: HM 68. B 37 1986): This research guide is designed to help students and
researchers find books and articles in sociology and social topics. It also provides hints and instructions for conducting library research.
This work contains a table of contents and an index.
Thesaurus of Sociological Indexing Terms (Reference Collection: HN 17. B 66 1989): This thesaurus lists the terms used by indexers and
librarians to describe the subjects of articles and books. Using the terms listed in this thesaurus can help you find more relevant books and articles
as you conduct your research. This book also contains a table of contents and guides for use.
Statistics Sources (Reference Desk: Z 7551. S 84): Organized topically, this guide to statistics resources points out thousands of different
places to find statistical information.

Bureau of the Census: The Census Bureau Web site offers a huge amount of statistical data about the
United States and its citizens. It includes statistics on employment, health, education, and more.
INFOMINE: INFOMINE is a special database that searches for Web site and documents that most
search engines miss, primarily Web pages and documents on university Web sites. This database is developed and maintained by the
Library of the University of California, Riverside.
Internet Resources for Sociology: This site, created by the University of
Delaware library, lists dozens of links to sites on sociologists, social theory, professional associations and organizations, mailing lists, and so on.
Intute: Social Sciences: Intute is a join project between several British
universities and research groups. Their sociology section covers sociological theory, economic sociology, psychology, and more.
Librarians' Internet Index: Collected and annotated by librarians, this site contains a searchable database
of high quality web sites. To find a web site, browse the available topics or use the search box.
Sociosite: Created by the Social Science Information System at the University of Amsterdam,
this collection of sociology links covers a wide variety of subject areas in sociological research, professional organizations, scholarly
journals, newsletters, research centers, sociology department Web sites, and more.
Statistical Resources/Sociology: The Government Documents
Center of the University of Michigan put together this site, which links to online government and private organization's statistical data on
a wide variety of topics.
