Bibliographies

Information Sources of Political Science (Reference Collection: Z 7161. H 64 1986): This bibliography has guides to political research and annotated lists of sources in political science, covering politics and political systems from around the world. This book has book an index and a table of contents.

Dictionaries

The Blackwell Dictionary of Political Science (Reference Collection: JA 61. B 43 1999): This dictionary defines terms used in politics and the study of politics and political systems. There is no list of entries, but an index is available at the end of the work.

The Dictionary of World Politics (Reference Collection: JA 61. E 85 1990): This dictionary briefly defines terms used in world politics and political systems. This work does not contain either a list of entries or an index.

Encyclopedias

Encyclopedia of American Political History (Reference Collection: E 183.E 5 1984): This three volume encyclopedia contains essays on major issues in American political history, including suffrage, separation of powers, civil rights, the constitution, and more. Volume one contains a complete list of articles; volume three has a cumulative index to the entire set.

Guides and Companions

The Book of Rule: How the World is Governed (Reference Collection: JF 51. B 583 2004): This book is an excellent source of information on the current political situations of countries around the world. This book contains a glossary, a table of contents, and a country index. Countries are arranged by their political system, i.e. presidential democracies, monarchies, parliamentary democracies, single-party systems, and so on.

How Government Works (Reference Collection: JK 27. H 74 1999): This encyclopedic guide is comprised of a series of articles that explain the workings of the United States government. It covers Congress, elections, the presidency, the judicial system, the federal bureaucracy and more. A complete list of entries can be found at the beginning of the book. This work also contains a complete index.

The Oxford Companion to Politics of the World (Reference Collection: JA 61. O 95 1993): This companion to world politics is arranged much like a dictionary, with short articles on people, concepts, political parties, countries and so on. There is no table of contents or index.

Political Handbook of the World 2005-2006 (Reference Collection: JF 37. P 61 2005-2006): Similar to the Europa World Year Book (available at the Reference Desk) or the CIA World Factbook (online), this handbook contains profiles of the politics, governments, and economics of many of the world's nations. Both a table of contents and an index are available.

Political Systems of the World (Reference Collection: JF 51.D 467 1996): This guide to world political systems contains statistical and historical information on governments around the world. Arranged topically, these articles cover elections, political parties, country profiles, and international politics. This guide has a table of contents and is indexed.

Web Sites

CIA World Factbook: Created and maintained by the Central Intelligence Agency, this online resource contains country profiles for every nation, territory, political entity, or geographic location on the planet. This source is updated multiple times through out the year.

Foreign Policy Research Institute: Created and maintained by the FPRI, this site contains articles, interviews, audio and video clips and more on current and long-standing issues in foreign policy.

INFOMINE: INFOMINE is a special database that searches for Web site and documents that most search engines miss, primarily Web pages and documents on university Web sites. This database is developed and maintained by the Library of the University of California, Riverside.

Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) Bibliography of Data-Related Literature: Use this web site to search for political and polling data.

Librarians' Internet Index: Collected and annotated by librarians, this site contains a searchable database of high quality Web sites. To find a Web site, browse the available topics or use the search box.

New York Times Politics Navigator: Gathered by Rich Meislin and hosted by the New York Times, this collection of links focuses on American politics, political parties, and news sources.

Political Science, University of California/Santa Barbara Library: Listing grouped under 19 major headings including American politics, U.S. Federal government, political parties, campaigns & elections, interest groups, public policy, public administration, comparative politics, international relations, political methodology, political economy, political theory, data resources, etc.

Political Science Research Guide: Internet Resources: Created and maintained by the Nimitz Library at the U.S. Naval Academy, this web site lists internet resources for research on political science, foreign relations, polling and public opinion, law, news, and more.

Political Sciences Resources on the Web, University of Michigan Documents Center: Contains 21 groupings covering U.S. foreign, international, state & local sites.

Richard Kimber's Political Science Resources: Politics and government around the world. Offers a gateway significant resources relevant to political science. Arranged in 14 topical areas.
