Books

The following are selected resources for research in mathematics. For more books on this topic, please use the library catalog: Library Catalog.

To find books in other libraries, try using WorldCat, a collective catalog for thousands of libraries in the United States, Canada, and around the world. This catalog should not be used as a substitute for this library's catalog, but as another avenue of searching for books.
Dictionaries

Dictionary of Algebra, Arithmetic, and Trigonometry (Reference Collection: QA 5. D 4983 2001): This brief dictionary contains definitions of concepts, terms, equations, and formulae used in algebra, arithmetic, and trigonometry. Equations and formulas are reprinted in this book.

Dictionary of Analysis, Calculus, and Differential Equations (Reference Collection: QA 5. D 53 2000): Included in this dictionary are short definitions of terms, formulae, and concepts used in calculus, analysis, and differential equations. Equations and formulas are reprinted in this book.

Dictionary of Classical and Theoretical Mathematics (Reference Collection: QA 5. D 4984 2001): This dictionary contains brief definitions and explanations of terms, concepts, equations, and formulas used in classical and theoretical mathematics. Equations and formulas are reprinted in this book.

The Facts on File Dictionary of Mathematics (Reference Collection: QA 5. F 35 1999): This short dictionary defines common terms used in geometry, algebra, calculus, and other branches of mathematics. Also included are numerous appendixes for unit conversions, constants, formulas, derivatives, and more.

Encyclopedias

CRC Concise Encyclopedia of Mathematics (Reference Collection: QA 5. W 45 2003): This encyclopedia contains thousands of articles on the philosophy of mathematics and theoretical mathematics, geometry, calculus, analysis, and more. Equations and formulas are reprinted in this book. Also included with the articles are short lists of references.

Handbooks and Formulas

CRC Standard Mathematical Tables and Formulae (Reference Collection: QA 47. M 315 1996): This handbook has collected hundreds of tables and formulas used by branches of mathematics such as algebra, scientific computing, probability and statistics, geometry, and more. Indexed.

Handbook of Mathematics (Reference Collection: QA 40. B 713 1985): This handbook reprints equations, tables, formulas, and rules for a wide variety of branches of mathematics, including calculus, algebra, probability and statistics, and so on. Indexed.

Handbook of Writing for the Mathematical Sciences (Reference Collection: QA 42. H 54 1998): This handbook is designed to help students and researchers understand the rules and conventions of writing mathematics papers for class or for publication. Indexed.

Web Sites

American Mathematical Society: This is the official Web site of the American Mathematical Society. This site offers information on mathematical research, careers in mathematics, meetings and conferences, and more. NOTE: The mathematics database MathSciNet is available through the link in the Articles section of this page.

A Catalog of Mathematics Resources on WWW and the Internet: Collected by a professor of mathematics at the University of Wisconsin-Marathon, this Web bibliography lists newsletters and discussion groups, listservs, history of mathematics and math education, and more.

INFOMINE: INFOMINE is a special database that searches for Web site and documents that most search engines miss, primarily Web pages and documents on university Web sites. This database is developed and maintained by the Library of the University of California, Riverside.

Librarians' Internet Index: Collected and annotated by librarians, this site contains a searchable database of high quality Web sites. To find a Web site, browse the available topics or use the search box.

Mathematics WWW Virtual Library: The Department of Mathematics at Florida State University has collected these links to electronic journals, preprints, online books, and general online resources.
