Yearbooks and Guides
The Book of Rule: How the World is Governed (Reference Collection: JF 51. B 583 2004): This book is an excellent source of information on the current political situations of countries around the world. This book contains a glossary, a table of contents, and a country index. Countries are arranged by their political system, i.e. presidential democracies, monarchies, parliamentary democracies, single-party systems, and so on.
The Europa World Yearbook (Reference Desk: JN 1. E 851 2005): This two volume set contains in depth articles on all of the world's nations. Articles include recent political history, diplomatic information, statistical information, and more.
International Information (Reference Collection: JZ 4850. I 58 1997): This book is designed to help students find information about and created by international organizations, such as the United Nations, the European Union, and so on. This book is also designed to help students conduct their own research on international organizations and non-government organizations. Indexed.
World at Risk: A Global Issues Sourcebook (Reference Collection: JZ 1242. W 67 2002): This sourcebook contains in depth articles on topics and issues that affect the entire world, including pollution, refugees, arms control, the environment, water, international criminal justice, and more. Indexed.
Web Sites
CIA World Factbook latest issue, archived issues: This is the electronic version of a publication that has concise country profiles for hundreds of nations and entities around the world. This site is updated constantly.
Countries: The US State Department has put together these profiles for nations around the world. Not only do these profiles have demographics and statistical information, but they also include travel and diplomatic information.
Country Profiles: Written by staff writers at the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), this site offers country and regional profiles. Profiles include recent political histories, demographics, and links to related news stories.
Librarians' Internet Index: Collected and annotated by librarians, this site contains a searchable database of high quality Web sites. To find a Web site, browse the available topics or use the search box.
United Nations: This is the official Web site of the UN. In addition to containing country profiles, this site also offers news stories from around the world, information on world health, culture, human rights, economics, and more.
