The following are selected resources for research in nuclear, mechanical, electrical, civil and environmental engineering. For more books on these topics, please use the Library Catalog.
To find books in other libraries, try using WorldCat, a collective catalog for thousands of libraries in the United States, Canada, and around the world. This catalog should not be used as a substitute for this library's catalog, but as another avenue of searching for books.
The Idaho National Laboratory has a library specializing in engineering and chemical resources. To find books at the INL library, use their online catalog: INL Technical Library. For more information about conducting research at the INL Library, see their access policy.
Dictionaries Comprehensive Dictionary of Electrical Engineering (Reference Collection: TK9 .C575 1999): Defines electronics and electrical engineering terms. Dictionary of Weights, Measures, and Units: This comprehensive dictionary provides clear definitions of all the units, prefixes, and styling of the Système International (SI), as well as industry-specific and traditional terms currently in use. Dictionary of Mechanical Engineering (Reference Collection: TJ9 .N28 1996): Find mechanical engineering terms. This resource also includes an appendix of the International System of Units. Environmental Engineering Dictionary (Reference Collection: TD9 .L44 1998): Defines environmental engineering terms and related environmental and government terms. Also included is an appendix of acronyms. Wiley Dictionary of Civil Engineering and Construction (Reference Collection: TA9 .W44 1997): Defines civil engineering terms, as well as construction and architectural terms. Includes an appendix of measurements and conversion formula. Handbooks and Manuals Standard Handbook of Engineering Calculations (Reference Collection: TA332 .S73 1995): This handbook covers mathematics for all branches of engineering, including chemical, electrical, nuclear, civil, mechanical and more. Use the table of contents or the index at the end of the book to find information in this book. Standard Handbook for Civil Engineers (Reference Collection: TA151 .S8 1983): This resource covers materials, management, system design, specifications, tools, stresses, structural analysis, foundations and more. Use the table of contents or the index at the end of the book to quickly locate information in this book. Materials There are a number of useful encyclopedias and handbooks on a wide variety of materials available in the Reference Collection. They start at TA 400. This section includes ASTM Standards, plastics, metals and alloys, and a number of encyclopedias and dictionaries on materials. More resources on metals and minerals can be found in the TN 600s. More resources on plastics can be found in the TP 900s. Other Resources Engineering Formulas (Reference Collection: TA151 .G4713 1997): This book contains charts, tables, and formulae for many different engineering problems. Use the index at the back of the book to locate formulae and tables in this resource. |

Circuits Archive: Compiled by the College of Engineering at the University of Washington, this site has diagrams of many useful circuits. Also included are text files about resistance, circuit design, microprocessors, and a link library of electronics pages.
Earthquake Engineering: Created by professors at the University of California--Berkeley, this site has information about the challenges that earthquakes present to engineers. Slides of faults and earthquake damage are integrated with the text.
Engineering Tool Box: This Web site has charts, tables, and other tools for students of all branches of engineering, including acoustical, environmental, civil, mechanical and more. Also included is information about materials properties and physics.
Intute: Science, Engineering and Technology has been "created by bringing together three of the Hubs of the Resource Discovery Network (RDN): EEVL (Engineering, Mathematics and Computing), GEsource (Geography and Environment) and PSIgate (Physical Sciences). The same team of experts, based at The University of Manchester and Heriot-Watt University, will maintain and develop the service." Use this to discover"the best Internet resources for teaching, learning and research, covering the physical sciences, engineering, computing, geography, mathematics and environmental science."
MatWeb Material Property Data: This site is a database that allows students and researchers to search for the properties of specific materials. Search either by the name of the material or by the type of material (i.e. plastic, ferrous and nonferrous metals, etc.).
Scitopia: Search over 3 million documents, plus patents and government data. Includes bibliographic records for fifteen societies spanning 150 years of sci-tech scholarship.
Acoustical Society of AmericaStandards Databases on the Internet: This page from the University of Auckland lists links to standards databases for all branches of engineering as well as materials for the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, and other countries around the world. |
