Reference Books
The following are selected resources for research in chemistry. For more books on this topic, please use the Library Catalog.
To find books in other libraries, try using WorldCat, a collective catalog for thousands of libraries in the United States, Canada, and around the world. This catalog should not be used as a substitute for this library's catalog, but as another avenue of searching for books.
Aldrich Library
The Aldrich Library of Infrared Spectra (Reference Collection: QD 96. I 5 P 67 1981): This volume contains tables of infrared spectroscopy.
The Aldrich Library of NMR Spectra (Reference Collection: QD 96. N 8 P 68): This two-volume set contains tables of nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
Dictionaries
Hawley's Condensed Chemical Dictionary (Reference Collection: QD 5. C 5 1993): This dictionary contains short definitions of chemical terms, phenomena, organic and inorganic chemical properties, behaviors, and compositions, etc.
Encyclopedias
Encyclopedia of Analytical Chemistry (Reference Collection: QD 71.5 E 52 2000): This fifteen-volume set is divided into two sections. Volumes one to ten contain articles on topics in instrumental methods applications. Volumes 11 to 15 contain articles on theory and instrumentation. Indexes to the entire set can be found in volume 15.
Handbooks
Chemical Technician's Ready Reference Handbook (Reference Collection: QD 61. S 58 1996): This handbook contains articles on laboratory practices, how to handle chemicals in various states, lab safety, related computer science, standards, and more. Indexed.
Lange's Handbook of Chemistry (Reference Collection: QD 65. L 36): This handbook of chemistry consists of chapters on organic and inorganic chemistry, thermodynamics, chemical properties and bonds, spectroscopy and electrochemistry, and more. Indexed.
Web Sites
Caltech Library System: Chemistry: The library system at the California Institute of Technology has collected these links to basic online resources for chemistry, chemistry associations, laboratory equipment, and more.
Chemistry and Biochemistry: Library staff at the University of California--Santa Barbara have compiled this list of lists to Web sites on topics in chemistry and biochemistry. Also included are links to pages with information about analytical chemistry, organic and inorganic chemistry, and physical chemistry.
CHEMnetBASE: This site offers browsable and searchable online copies of chemistry and physics texts and was created by Chapman & Hall and CRC Press LLC.
Core Chemistry Resources: Created by the Science and Engineering Library at the University of California--San Diego, this collection of chemistry resources focuses on print or online versions of core chemistry resources such as the Aldrich and Spectra texts. These sources are primarily designed to help find chemical data and properties.
General Chemistry Online: This site was designed for beginning and intermediate chemistry students and includes a common compound database, glossaries, simulations, and more.
WWW Chemistry Resources: Collected by the Duke University Libraries, this collection of chemistry resources covers analytical chemistry, safety issues, chemistry education, organic and biochemistry, and more.
