Audiobooks now available at ISU!
The Idaho Commission for Libraries has made available a package of eAudiobooks from NetLibrary. This is a statewide trial and may or may not be continued past September 2008.
To begin using this resource:
- Create a free account
Once you have logged in you will come to a search screen. The default search is "full-text"; you may want to change it to "author", "keyword" or "title". Only eBooks have the full-text searchable so you won't find many audiobooks with a "full-text" search. Use the links on the left to browse or search the audiobooks separately from the ebooks. - Click on the right side of the screen on the eAudiobooks collection link.
- Search or browse for eAudiobooks or eBooks
Both collections are keyword searchable or browsable using the subject groupings to the right. - Download
Choose from CD Quality or Radio Quality; you must choose CD Quality to transfer the file to an MP3 device. Be prepared to wait. Two icons will appear on your desktop. Wait until the second one (.prt) disappears before clicking on the download icon to play. - Validate
To validate that you are checking out the item, click on it. This will open the Audiobook in Window's Media Player v9 or above. A pop-up window will prompt you to login with your NetLibrary username and password (you signed up for this at step 1). If the popup says you do not have ActiveX allowed, you will need to read the screen carefully and enable this feature. - Successful Checkout!
Congratulations, you now have 21 days to listen to your downloaded audiobook. At the end of the checkout period the data file will become unusable. You can always check it out again. - Listen or Read
Audiobooks can be downloaded or played on any desktop, laptop or portable device that supports Windows Media Player version 9 and above. Click here for a list of supported devices. Audiobooks are not transferable to Microsoft Zune or Apple iPod players. You cannot burn a copy of the audiobook to a CD. To move an audiobook to a portable device you must use the Window's Media Player's 'Sync' feature. For help with Syncing see the Windows Media Player FAQ-Sync to devices. This step is required; it allows the 'license to play' to be transferred to your device.
eAudiobook content includes foreign languages, popular novels and fiction, nonfiction, children's books, and classics.
