The following are selected resources in anthropology, archaeology, and ethnology. For more books on these topics, please use the Library Catalog.

Dictionaries

An Archaeological Guide and Glossary (Reference Collection: CC 70 .S75 1960): This glossary contains definitions and brief articles on topics in physical archaeology, archaeological sites, archaeologists and anthropologists. It also has images and maps of dig locations across the globe and a bibliography for further reading on many of the topics covered in this resource.

Dictionary of Concepts in Physical Anthropology (Reference Collection: GN 50.3 .S74 1991): This dictionary has lengthy definitions of important concepts in evolution, archaeology, archaeological dating methods, genetics and so on. It includes bibliographies at the end of each article and an index at the end of the volume.

Encyclopedias

Archaeological Method and Theory : an Encyclopedia (Reference Collection: CC 75 .A654 2000): This encyclopedia primarily defines and explains physical and forensic archaeological terms. It covers geology, archaeological methods, and related topics, and includes images, charts, and a thorough index.

Encyclopedia of Anthropology (Reference Collection: GN 11 .E63 2006): This five-volume encyclopedia is designed to be a general reference work for anthropology and contains articles on methods, important finds, anthropologists, archaeologists, cultures, and more. Indexed.

Encyclopedia of Archaeology (Reference Collection: CC 110 .E54): This encyclopedia covers the history of archaeology. It contains articles on archaeologists and important archaeological sites. Archaeological terms and methods are also discussed. There is no index, but this encyclopedia can be navigated by its table of contents.

Encyclopedia of Language & Linguistics (Reference Collection: P 29 .E48 2006): This 14-volume encyclopedia covers all aspects of linguistics. The thematic guide or Subject Classification groups the articles into 36 main categories which include Linguistic Anthropology, Applied Linguistics, Variation and Language, and Sociolinguistics.

Encyclopedia of World Cultures (Reference Collection: GN 550 .E53): This encyclopedia covers the history, customs and languages of tribes and ethnicities from around the world. Each volume covers a different continent. Volume 10 is an index for the entire set.

Other Resources

Atlas of World Cultures: A Geographical Guide to Ethnographic Literature (Reference Collection: G1046 .E1 P7 1989): This atlas is full of color images, maps and short articles covering the entire span of human history. This source also contains a timeline, a lengthy table of contents, and an index.

Web Sites

AATA online: Abstracts of International Conservation Literature
This site is a database that indexes hard to find articles and research papers on topics in archaeology, ethnology, history, and the science of archaeology. Focus is primarily on the physical science aspects of anthropology.

African American Archaeology, History and Cultures
"'This web site is designed to provide convenient access to online presentations and resources concerning the subjects of African American archaeology, history and cultures, and broader subjects of African Diaspora archaeology.' This is the AAA's gateway site to anthropology resources on the Internet.

American Anthropological Association's Resources for Students in Anthropology
The AAA has collected and annotated these links to resources for anthropology students. The links point to job search databases, information about what to do with an anthropology degree, grant resources, and field school information.

Anthropology Resources on the Internet
Currently maintained by Bernard-Olivier Clist, this site lists hundreds of anthropology resources. Resources are primarily focused on pre-history and archaeology.

ArchNet - Virtual Library of Archaeology
This gateway site to anthropology resources on the Internet is maintained by the Archaeological Research Institute at Arizona State University. The links are grouped by region, subject, "Educational & Research Resources" and "Institutions & Organizations".

INFOMINE
INFOMINE is a special database that searches for web sites and documents that most search engines miss, primarily web pages and documents on university web sites. This database is developed and maintained by the Library of the University of California, Riverside.

National Archeology Database - NADB Reports
"The National Archeology Database, Reports module, is an expanded bibliographic inventory of over 350,000 reports on archeological investigation and planning, mostly of limited circulation. This 'gray literature' represents a large portion of the primary information available on archeological sites in the U.S."-NADB-Reports web page

PrimateLit
"The PrimateLit database provides bibliographic access to the scientific literature on nonhuman primates for the research and educational communities.
