The Consequences of Academic Dishonesty

The consequences of academic dishonesty can be very serious. Depending on the nature of the offense, they can range from being required to rewrite an assignment, to failing a class, to being expelled from Idaho State University. The ISU Student Handbook has this to say about academic dishonesty:

In cases of academic dishonesty, such as cheating or plagiarism, students will be dismissed from class, given failing grades or otherwise disciplined by the faculty member. Before students are allowed to repeat the course, they must submit a petition to, and obtain approval from, the Scholarship Requirements Committee or the designated official of the college having jurisdiction over the course. Faculty members are responsible for deciding academic dishonesty cases which occur in their classes, except when a case involves additional violation of University policies. 5
The Student Handbook contains ISU's policies on cheating, plagiarism, and other forms of academic dishonesty and their consequences in Section IX: Student Conduct.

Another consequence of engaging in academically dishonest behavior, whether or not it is detected and punished, is that in doing so, you disrupt the academic process. You are unfair to your fellow students and you mock the efforts of your teachers.
