Access databases from off-campus?

For information, see Remote User Access

Access the wireless network in the library?

In order to connect your laptop to the ISU Wireless network, you must have an ISU computer account. You also must have a compatible wireless card. You also must go to the Help Desk window in the basement of the Business Building in person and present your wireless device and ISU ID.

Additional information on Internet/Network Access - Wireless.

Create an email alias?

All registered students are assigned an email account. You can set up an alias in your ISU email account. This will automatically forward all email messages sent to your @isu.edu email account to your preferred non-ISU email account. Click here for detailed instructions on how to set up an alias.

How does the Web delivery process work?

Photocopies of articles are now delivery on the Web in PDF format. PDF is the format used by Adobe Acrobat software, which is a widely used standard for creating and sharing electronic files. See Electronic Delivery of Articles FAQ for more detailed information.

Problems connecting to a Library database?

License agreements with database vendors prevent us from making all of the Library databases available in an unrestricted manner over the Internet. Check the Access Restrictions column of the Databases pages to find out if the database is available for access from your location. If the database shows access is available from your location and you are having problems connecting, see Additional Information About Database Login.

Problems connecting to the ISU web pages?

There are several possible reasons why you may be unable to access the web pages at ISU. The most common is that you may not having a working connection to the Internet. On rare occasions the server may be down for maintenance. If you have problems accessing the ISU web pages please contact the ISU Computer Center Help Desk at (208) 282-4357.

Problems printing a PDF document?

There is a known bug when trying to print PDF files from within Netscape 7.0. You must first save the document, using Adobe's "Save" icon. Once the document is saved to a local drive, open it with Adobe Reader and then print it.

You can also adjust a print setting within Netscape by clicking File, Print, Advanced, check "print as image", click OK and then print the document.

Problems connecting to an ISU computer account?

Contact the ISU Computer Center Help Desk at (208) 282-4357.

Problems with passwords?

To access the Library Databases from home

Some databases are not available from home. Check the Access Restrictions column of the database pages to find out if the database is available from home. If the table reads "On & Off Campus" in the access column, you will be required to log in using your ISU email username and password. If you are having problems logging in using that username and password, see Additional information about Database Login.

Electronic Document Delivery

Enter your complete email address, for example yourname@isu.edu. You must use your ISU email address to log into this system, even if you received the Document Delivery Notification from a non-ISU email account. For more information about email addresses go to Email FAQ's.

Enter your PIN number (sent to you in your e-mail notification). The PIN number is case sensitive but you can use Window's copy/paste functionality to copy the number from the email message and paste it into the box labeled Your PIN number.

Plug-ins?

Many web pages need to have plug-ins installed before the page will display properly. The following plug-in programs are the most common.
