Eli M. Oboler Library
Email Alias
You can create an email alias if you want to have email forwarded from an ISU email account to another email account. For example, the Library and other campus communications are sent to you using your university-assigned email account; this is not the same as a departmental email account. The email information used by the Library comes from the university's registration and payroll systems; the library's database is automatically updated on a regular basis, so maintaining preferred email addresses is not an option. You already have an email account you use, and you do not want to have to check your ISU email account. You want to receive all your email through your personal (departmental or non-ISU) email account. You need to set up your ISU email account so it forwards to your personal email account any email messages addressed to that ISU account.
To set up this email forwarding, follow these steps:
- Log in to http://webmail.isu.edu (log in using the username and password for your ISU email account).
- Click on "Options".
- Click on "Delegated Administrator".
- You are then prompted to log in again (again, your ISU email account username and password).
- Click on "Mail Delivery Options".
- IMPORTANT! Under Deliver incoming messages to: take the check mark out of "POP3/IMAP4 mailbox". If you do not take this check mark out, a copy of each email will remain in this inbox and eventually, the mailbox will become full and additional mail cannot be delivered. If mail cannot be delivered to this email account, messages cannot be forwarded.
- Under Forward a copy of each message to: put a check mark in the box "Enable forwarding" and in the text box below that type the email address to which you want the email forwarded.
- Click on the "Save" button at the bottom; then click "Continue". Click on "logout"; then click on "Close Browser". You are returned to the Account Summary screen.
- Click on "logout" to exit webmail.
If you are a student, you can check your username and original password
- Go to "MyISU Portal"
- Log in, using your Bengal Card number (or Social Security Number) and PIN. Your original PIN is your month and year of birth, example 0165 for a birthday of January, 1965. If you changed your PIN and forgot the new PIN, you can call the ISU Help Desk or click on Reset PIN and follow the instructions.
- Click on "Computer Account Information" in "My Accounts"; this will allow you to see what your ISU email username is and your original ISU email password.
- If the username and password shown in "Computer Account Information" do not work for accessing your ISU email account you will need to contact the ISU Help Desk. You can visit their web page at http://help.isu.edu/ or phone (208) 282-4585 to talk to help desk staff about your ISU email account and "resetting your password".
If you are faculty or staff, you can check your username and password
- Go to "Faculty/Staff Tools"
- Log in. Your username and password for Faculty/Staff Tools is the same as your ISU email username and password.
- If you cannot log in to Faculty/Staff Tools, you will need to contact the ISU Help Desk. You can visit their web page at http://help.isu.edu/ or phone (208) 282-4585 to talk to help desk staff about your ISU email account and "resetting your password".
