Promotion, Publicity, and Advertising
The organizations of ASISU have numerous ways to advertise their events, recruitment information, and regular meetings. By using all that is available a group can have a very effective advertising campaign. The following are different ways to promote, publicize, and advertise:
- Flyers and Bulletin Board Distribution - This is probably the most common form of advertising on campus. Combined with other forms of advertising it can be very effective. Organizations are allowed 100 free copies per semester on the Student Activities Center copy machine, and three (3) free campus bulletin board distributions per semester (leave 35 copies with the Program Board). The Program Board will design your flyers if you wish (2 weeks lead time with a limit of 3 per semester).
- Student Organization Bulletin Boards - There are three (3) bulletin boards available only to student organizations. Locations are by the PSUB Ballroom, next to the Copy Center in the PSUB Lobby, and in the Activities Center.
- Paper Banners - Banners may be created with free paper (3' tall), markers, and paints in the Student Activities Workroom. Call the Scheduling and Events Office (x2297) for permission to hang banners in the SUB.
- Table Tents - Table tents can be placed in the PSUB eating areas. Check with Scheduling and Events Services (x2297) for permission. Call the Student Organizations Office (x4441) for information on creating table tents.
- Window Painting - The windows in the Quad Lounge may be painted for your event. You must provide your own paints. (Paints can be borrowed from the Student Organizations Office). Contact the Schedueling and Events Office (x2297) for permission. Your club will be charged a $5 cleaning fee.
- Quad Lounge Permanent Cloth Flags - This is a way for your organization to show itself off on a daily basis in the Quad Lounge. Visit the PSUB Craft Shop (x3281) for instructions and help in creating a banner.
- PSUB Information Tables - Main Lobby tables are available free of charge to registered student organizations on a first come, first serve basis. Check with the Scheduling and Events Services (x2297) to reserve a table.
- Organization Fair - The fairs happen once every semester. They are a great way to let people know about your organization. Free refreshments and music are provided to attract people to the event. Organizations will be notified of the dates of the fairs as they approach, or call Student Organizations (x4441) for information.
- Interclub Council - Designed to unite student organizations, Interclub Council provides an atmosphere where the leaders or representatives of the groups can come join other leaders in gaining new and helpful information, such as current events and spreading the news of a club's upcoming events.
- Homecoming and Springfest - The are numerous ways to get your group involved in these events and let the rest of the school know who you are and what you do. Contact the Program Board Homecoming/Springfest Chair (x3451) for information.
- Freshmen Pre-Registration - This is a time during the spring to let incoming freshmen know about your group and what it can do for them. Contact the Registration Office (x2661) to find out how your club can get involved.
- Organization Email Distribution List - The Student Organizations secretary has a distribution list of all email addresses of the registered student organizations that provided this information on the registration form. By providing your events information to the secretary, an emailing can be sent to the other clubs.
- University Relations - Contact this office (x3620) to have your event published in the campus-wide News & Notes newsletter. They can also do a press release for your event.
- Bengal Newspaper - You may be able to get the newspaper to do a story on an upcoming event or your group can purchase advertising.
- Local Radio, TV, and Newspapers - If you are having a community-wide event, many times you can take advantage of the "community calendar" features that are offered at minimal or no charge. If your budget permits, you can also purchase advertising from these sources. Be sure to call several weeks in advance
