Mission Statement

The mission of the KCHP is multifaceted. The primary responsibility is the enhancement of the quality of life of the residents of Idaho and the greater community through the education of students in the Health Care Professions. This is facilitated through excellence in research, community service, teaching, and application of technology.

Goal Categories

The goal categories identified in the KCHP Guidelines and Procedures for Strategic Planning are:

  1. ACCESS – includes goals and objectives addressing availability of programs and resources, student recruitment, as well as marketing and publicity
  2. COMMUNITY SERVICE – includes goals and objectives related to faculty, staff and student involvement with the general public as well as client and patient care activities
  3. INTERPROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY – includes goals and objectives that involve collaboration among two or more departments or professional disciplines working together on projects related to teaching, research and/or clinical activities
  4. SCHOLARLY ACTIVITY – includes goals and objectives related to facilitation and improvement of faculty and student research and scholarly activity addressing and promoting the health professions
  5. SUPPORT – includes goals and objectives related to physical and financial resources, staffing, and student services
  6. TEACHING – includes goals and objectives related to faculty development, faculty recruitment and retention, and improvement of instructional capabilities
  7. TECHNOLOGY – includes goals and objectives addressing the development and use of technological resources (such as computer hardware and software, electronic media, and medical technology) to facilitate or enhance teaching, learning, and research in the health professions as well as in the delivery of health care
  8. OTHER – includes goals and objectives which do not fall into one of the above categories

ACCESS

Provide the residents of Idaho with a wide variety of educational choices within the Health Professions.

Goal 1 – Develop, implement and offer new programs and expand existing programs that prepare students to enter the Health Professions

Objectives
1.1 Participate in State Board of Education analyses of health labor force needs in Idaho
1.2 Explore Optometry
1.3 Develop plans for offerings in Addictions Program at multiple degree levels
1.4 Develop core courses for students interested in Health Professions
1.5 Complete feasibility study for Interdisciplinary Health Sciences doctoral degree vs. doctorate in Nursing
1.6 Increase program offerings in Boise
1.7 Seek approval for American Sign Language course as fulfilling General Education requirement

Goal 2 – Recruit and retain quality students for Health Professions education programs

Objectives
2.1 Develop and implement recruiting plans
2.2 Maintain visibility among Western Allied Health Schools and with ASAHP
2.3 Provide resources and support for departmental/program recruiting efforts

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Interact with the public and with professional communities in a positive way.

Goal 1 – Provide services to the citizens of the State of Idaho to promote health, wellness, and general well-being

Objectives
1.1 Conduct annual Health Fair
1.2 Increase public access to health care services

Goal 2 – Serve members of Health Professions communities in Idaho and elsewhere

Objectives
2.1 Conduct successful annual Health Conference
2.2 Develop multi-disciplinary one credit workshops for students/community clinicians
2.3 Expand offerings of Spanish for Health Care Professionals class

INTERPROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY

Interact freely and in a meaningful, productive way with members of other departments and professions.

Goal 1 – Encourage collaboration among programs and departments within the College and campus-wide

Objectives
1.1 Develop a plan for providing incentives for faculty participation in collaborative activities
1.2 Continue to develop multi-disciplinary clinical sites for students
1.3 Encourage interprofessional research activity
1.4 Encourage College participation in Centennial Celebration campaign

SCHOLARLY ACTIVITY

Engage in professional research and other scholarly activities.

Goal 1 – Provide research opportunities for faculty and students

Objectives
1.1 Establish ISU Clinical Research Center
1.2 Organize and coordinate College-wide research activities

Goal 2 – Maximize acquisition of internal and external funds

Objectives
2.1 Identify funding sources
2.2 Provide resources to support faculty efforts at grant writing
2.3 Provide resources to support faculty efforts during grant implementation

Goal 3 – Encourage faculty, staff and students to participate in professional and scholarly endeavors

Objectives
3.1 Expand opportunities for World Wide Web course development
3.2 Increase participation in the annual College Research Day
3.3 Provide resources and support for professional and research presentations at regional and national conferences
3.4 Expand local, regional and national presence of KCHP faculty

SUPPORT

Provide resources to facilitate growth and development of the College and individual departments and programs and to sustain College and departmental operations.

Goal 1 – Provide optimal facilities, space and resources

Objectives
1.1 Plan new Dental Hygiene facility
1.2 Address critical space needs in all of the programs on the Pocatello campus

Goal 2 – Provide support and assistance to the departments and programs

Objectives
2.1 Develop and implement new educational programs in the Health Professions
2.2 Expand existing Health Professions education programs
2.3 Provide individual departments and programs with needed financial support and other resources
2.4 Improve successful employment placement for program graduates

Goal 3 – Assess departmental and program progress toward strategic goal and objective accomplishment

Objectives
3.1 Establish College guidelines for program effectiveness assessment
3.2 Utilize assessment data to evaluate program effectiveness and identify areas for improvement

TEACHING

Maximize the transfer of knowledge, skills and values.

Goal 1 – Facilitate faculty growth and development

Objectives
1.1 Support faculty efforts at enhancing professional qualifications and pedagogical capacity
1.2 Optimize the use of current technology in the teaching environment

TECHNOLOGY

Provide technological assets to facilitate College and Departmental functions and operations

Goal 1 – Use technology to facilitate or enhance teaching, learning, and research in the health professions as well as in the delivery of health care

Objectives
1.1 Obtain Telehealth grant
1.2 Secure technology position
