Department of Health and Nutrition Sciences Faculty and Students Volunteer at Local Food Bank

On January 15 a group of approximately 50 faculty and students from the Department of Health and Nutrition Sciences spent several hours volunteering at the Idaho Food Bank. The group removed recalled peanut butter crackers from thousands of bags of food which had been packaged for the regional BackPacks for Kids Program. Dr. Laura Vailas, wife of ISU President Arthur Vailas joined the faculty and students at this event. Laura, a registered dietitian, is an avid supporter of the Food Bank. A group of faculty and student volunteers also returned over the MLK holiday weekend to spend more time at the Food Bank repackaging bulk dried beans. Students from the dietetics student group, the public health student association and Phi Upsilon Omicron, a family and consumer science/dietetics student honorary all participated in this service event.
