Nursing Professor Provides Expertise on Domestic Violence
Idaho Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter has reappointed nursing professor Karen Neill, PhD, to the Idaho Council on Domestic Violence and Victim Assistance. The council is the advisory body for programs and services affecting crime victims in Idaho. It collaborates with programs statewide to improve crime-victim treatment by providing victims with assistance and services. Neill also chairs the Committee for Oversight of Domestic Violence Treatment Standards, a council subcommittee.
Also, Neill will present a podium session at the International Association of Forensic Nursing's Scientific Assembly in Dallas, Texas, Sept. 17-20. She will present on the topic "Offender Accountability: Addressing Perpetrator Responsibility and Victim Safety." The presentation will explore domestic violence intervention strategies based on current evidence addressing the perpetrator of violence, and the critical interface of criminal justice, social-service and health care systems. Neill specializes in forensics. She started the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner program in southeastern Idaho.
