The Content Module, a WebCT Tool, is an essential component of DENT320. The Content Module provides notes for each topic and access to a variety of other learning objects, such as CD-ROM files, quizzes, glossary terms, and annotations.
In this image the Quiz tool is emphasized. At the end of a section of content, the learners are presented with a quiz to verify their understanding of the material they just addressed. This method of in-the-moment evaluation provides immediate feedback to the student and helps Professor Paarmann gauge the learner's level of understanding. This enables the instructor to identify individual students who may need additional support and to determine if the class on the whole is accomplishing course goals.
This kind of enhancement of course content accomplishes a transparency of design, which means that students find the tools they need in the places they need them. One of the fundamental rules of effective web design is to not make the user think about the interface, allowing him or her to focus on the content. This is especially important with educational web design and is something Professor Paarmann has handled very successfully.
