Location

Pocatello, the county seat of Bannock County in southeast Idaho, is located at the intersection of two interstate highways, I-15 and I-86.

Nestled at 4,448 feet in the western foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Pocatello has an unusually desirable four-season climate where clear, sunny and dry is the norm. Less than 15 inches of precipitation falls annually. Summers are dry and warm with the July mean temperature at 72.4 degrees. The average daily temperature during the winter months is 35.4 degrees.


Recreation

A wide variety of recreational opportunities abound in and around Pocatello.

In a little over one-half an hour drive you can enjoy skiing at Pebble Creek, swimming at Lava or Downata Hot Springs, and excellent areas for boating, hiking, fishing, hunting, camping, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling.

An additional two-hour drive puts you on the doorstep of world class resorts (Sun Valley, Grand Targhee, Jackson Hole, and Park City) and scenic vacation spots (Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, the Sawtooth National recreation Area, Island Park, Bear Lake and more).

The city has 32 parks, many with picnic tables, playground areas and covered pavilions. Ross Park, the largest park in Pocatello, contains a zoo with native Idaho animals, the Bannock county Historical Museum, "Pocatello Junction", and the Fort Hall Replica, where children of all ages can imagine life as it was during the early pioneer days.

Pocatello has year-round swimming and tennis facilities, horse and auto racing, athletic clubs which offer a wide variety of recreational and fitness programs, movie theaters, bowling alleys, a roller skating rink, a trap shooting range, a playhouse theatre, symphony orchestra concerts, and a host of other cultural events.

Golfers can enjoy seveal golf courses in the region, including two 18-hole public courses in Pocatello, Highland is a 6372-yard, par 72 and Riverside is a 6097-yard, par 71.

Juniper Hills country club, also in Pocatello, offers a 6097-yard, par 71 private golf course, dining room, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, swimming pool and lounge.
