Undergraduate Admission
Undergraduate Education (Associate and Bachelor degree)
- In the U.S. an undergraduate degree is completed within 4-5 years of study.
- All degrees require a minimum of 128 credits to be completed.
- A credit at ISU is defined as 50 minutes of instruction time per week for 16 weeks.
- The average student takes 15 credits per semester.
- The academic year consists of 2 semesters.
- A student can also take summer school but rarely can complete more than 6 credits in the summer.
- The average student completes 30-35 credits per year.
- All students are admitted as pre-majors because the U.S. education system requires a general education component consisting of about 30-40 credits of general education in a variety of subjects.
- Students who are seeking a second bachelor’s degree or who have an associate’s degree from an American accredited institution are exempted from general education requirements.
Requirements for admission of students coming from high school
- Completed Undergraduate Application Form
- Secondary school (high school) diploma and mark sheets (grades) in original or copies certified by the school principal or the controller of examinations. Must be in official, sealed school envelope.
- Translation of these documents by a certified translator if the documents are not in English.
- Official TOEFL, iBT or IELTS results sent directly by the testing organization. To find test centers and to learn more about the tests go to http://www.ets.org/toefl/ or http://www.ielts.org/
OR
- Completion of ELS Level 112 in the ELS Intensive English Language Program. To learn more about ELS at Idaho State University go to http://www.els.edu/Centers/Pocatello. Students who cannot meet the required TOEFL score of 173 (computer), iBT of 61 or IELTS score of 5 may be given conditional admission if they enroll in the ELS program
- Exemption from TOEFL/IELTS is possible for students from countries where English is the official medium of instruction. To see whether you qualify contact
forrsusa@isu.edu. - SAT or ACT is not required for admission!
- $ 40.00 application fee International Money Order or Bank Draft made out in U.S. funds to Idaho State University with a bank routing number. On-line applicants can pay with a credit card.
- Completed Declaration of Financial Support Form with all required bank documents listed on the form
Alternative Admissions criteria for International Student who do not have high school diploma
- Must have an ACT composite score of at least 21 or a combined SAT Verbal and Math score of 990 and a GED with a 450 (45) average and no individual score below 400 (40).
OR
- Must have an ACT composite score of at least 21 or a combined SAT verbal and math score of 990 and both a Compass score in English of at least 68 and Algebra score of at least 40.
- A TOEFL Score of 500 may or may not be required depending on the ACT English score or SAT Verbal score. Students who have an ACT English score of 18 or better, or an SAT Verbal score of 450 or better, or a COMPASS Writing score of 68 or better will be exempted from the TOEFL requirement.
