Current IRH Research and Projects

CDC Oral Health

The Idaho Oral Health Program contracted with the Idaho State University Master of Public Health Program to develop and conduct an Oral Health Environmental Assessment and Partnership/Collaboration Evaluation. The Institute of Rural Health is part of this collaboration. The results of the assessment and evaluation will be utilized to help identify oral health policy priorities and interventions to achieve improved oral health outcomes. The results have also shaped the development of the 2015-2020 Idaho Oral Health Action Plan. A second environmental assessment will occur in 2017.

Idaho Commission on Aging (ICOA)

The Institute of Rural Health at Idaho State University has been contracted by the Idaho Commission on Aging (ICOA) to assess the Older Americans Act (OAA) and State Senior Services Act (SSA) needs in Idaho. These needs will be assessed using a survey developed by the Institute of Rural Health. The overall goal of this project is to evaluate the needs of older adults in Idaho. The assessment results will help ICOA fund necessary services to the six local Area Agencies on Aging.

Idaho Healthcare for Children and Families (IHCF)

IRH partners with IDHW for study on Primary Care Providers

The Idaho State University Institute of Rural Health is partnering with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (IDHW) to conduct a baseline study on primary care providers’ use of team-based care, referral patterns, and electronic health records (EHR) for patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. Other partnering organizations include the Idaho Medical Association, the Idaho Academy of Family Physicians, the Idaho Primary Care Association, and St. Luke’s Health System.

IRH partners with IDHW for study to Prevent and Control Oral Disease

This is a contract to design an online oral health surveillance system with core data measures and an expanded system with additional data measures. This is done through conducting in-depth interviews and surveys with stakeholders to identify background information prior to outlining and designing the online surveillance system (barriers, facilitators, data sources, reporting needs, etc.). This evaluation is part of the state’s five (5) year oral health evaluation plan.
