How Can I Participate?

Community Health Centers

In order to qualify for a HealthCorps member, you need to provide the following:

  1. Approximately $4000 per full-time member to meet the match requirement for the Community HealthCorps stipend, uniform, and training.
  2. An identifiable project that yields identifiable outcome data.
  3. A workstation appropriate to the project.
  4. Understanding that the HealthCorps members are involved in ongoing training which will be part of their regular workload.

What your Center can gain:

  1. A Community HealthCorps member who brings enthusiasm and vitality to your staff.
  2. Access to ongoing training for your staff. CHC staff are invited to participate in monthly training activities that are designed for the ICHC members.
  3. Participation in an important program that teaches positive community values.

Health Professions Training Programs

In order for your students to qualify for an Educational Award, you need to provide the following:

  1. Practicum hours providing service in a Federally funded Community Health Center of an approved underserved location.
  2. An identifiable set of activities during practicum.
  3. A workstation appropriate to the project.
  4. Record keeping of the hours that members work.

What your Program can gain:

  1. A Community HealthCorps member who brings enthusiasm and vitality to your staff.
  2. Access to ongoing training for your staff. CHC staff are invited to participate in monthly training activities that are designed for the ICHC members.
  3. Participation in an important program that teaches positive community values.
  4. Increased financial awards for your students without increasing their work burden.

Stipended Community HealthCorps Members

In order to qualify for a Community HealthCorps member, you need to be able to agree to the following:

  1. Be willing to comply with the work hour requirements (1700 service hours full time, 900 part time).
  2. Have an interest in making a difference in the community where you work.

What you can gain:

  1. Access to ongoing training for your in health education and related health professions skills.
  2. A living stipend of approximately $10,600 full time, $5,400 part time.
  3. Child care, if needed and eligible.
  4. Educational award of approximately $4725.
  5. Participation in an important program that teaches positive community values.
  6. The experience of a lifetime.

Education Award Only Community HealthCorps Members

In order to qualify for a Community Health Corps member, you need to be able to agree to the following:

  1. Be willing to comply with work requirements (450, 900 or 1700 hours).
  2. Have an interest in making a difference in the community where you work.
  3. Some health professions training programs may allow you to use your HealthCorps hours for practica and internship hours. To see if you qualify to do this, contact Debbie Green for more information.
  4. Have an interest in making a difference in the community where you work.

What you can gain:

  1. Real-life experience during your training program.
  2. Educational award that can be used to pay former or future educational costs.
  3. Participation in an important program that teaches positive community values.
  4. The experience of a lifetime.
