Bachelor of Arts Requirements
The program is designed to encourage student to develop general understanding of languages, cultures, economics, and politics, while simultaneously offering opportunity to specialize in one of three areas: 1) political and economic development, 2) language, literature, and culture, or 3) United States and world affairs.
All students are required to take:
- Two years or sixteen (16) credits of a modern foreign language or the equivalent demonstrated competency. The languages offered at Idaho State University are French, German, Russian, and Spanish.
- Economics 2201, Principles of Macroeconomics (3 credits)
- International Studies 2200, Simulation (1 credit)
- International Studies 4400, Simulation (1 credit)
- International Studies 4493, Senior Thesis (4 credits)
- POLS 2221, Introduction to International Relations (3 credits)
- International Studies 3350, International Symposium (1 credit, repeatable 8 times)
The two simulation classes form an integral part of the program and offer an innovative approach to understanding international relations. This is an opportunity for students to play roles in making foreign policy or in making decisions of international importance. The simulation experience allows students hands on experience in international relations.
Each area of concentration includes eighteen credits. In each area of concentration the credits need to be spread out over several departments so that students are not overly specialized in the curriculum of a single discipline. Finally, students are required to take ten credits of elective courses from an even wider distribution of disciplines.
