Course Title

Idaho Modular Radiological Emergency Response Training (IMERRT): Hospital Emergency Staff Personnel

Description

This Course is designed to prepare hospital personnel to analyze radiological situations; assess patient conditions and problems; initiate patient care and decontamination; take necessary steps to ensure medical provider safety; and identify appropriate resources for the continuation of care and decontamination.

Course Objectives

• Provide basic understanding of ionizing radiation including recognition of biological effects due to exposure to or contamination of radiological materials.
• Provide understanding of how to prepare facility and medical personnel for receiving accident victims exposed to or contaminated with radioactive materials.
• Provide understanding of appropriate care for patients that are contaminated with radioactive materials or have received a large acute dose of ionizing radiation.

Prerequisites

• WMD Basic Awareness Course (or Proof of Completion for Comparable Course).

Target Audience

This course is designed to serve the needs of emergency department personnel who may be required to provide care to patients involved in a radioactive material incident.

Student Expectations

To receive certification, students are expected to participate in section reviews, interactive questions, and successfully complete all aspects of testing.
