Sports Related Concussions

As many as 3.8 million sports-related or recreation-related concussions occur in the U.S. every year. On this episode we explore the seriousness of concussions among athletes. This is an issue for athletes in junior high-all the way up to the pros. We talk to the professionals about why it s so vital for everyone, from athletes to coaches to parents, to have the facts on this topic.
We also introduce you to the ISU Radio talk shows around campus. They offer something a little different; that you just can't get anywhere else.

Hands on learning

You can't learn everything from a book. This episode investigates ways students at ISU are getting their noses out of their books and putting their hands to work in the learning process. From archeological digs in Texas to creating delectable delights in the kitchen, these students are getting real-world experience before they have to step into the real world. Also, ever wonder how much exercise it takes to burn a single M&M? Maybe you'd rather eat in ignorance-but we'll tell you anyway.

Causes of osteoporosis

When you hear of an elderly person falling and breaking their hip, you naturally assume the hip broke due to the fall. But often, they fell because the hip bone suddenly broke. On this episode we look at the causes of osteoporosis and what you can do to prevent bone loss. Also, a new program at ISU giving GED students the tools they need to be successful in college.

Climate change in Idaho

What effect is climate change having on Idaho's environment? This episode explores multiple research projects being conducted in the Gem State with the goal of answering that question. This show takes a look at how climate change is affecting everything from fire to ice in Idaho's environment Also, suicide is the second leading cause of death for Idaho's youth. Signs, symptoms and prevention of suicide are discussed.

Job Skills

A sagging economy means thousands of Idahoans are out of work. This episode gives viewers tips on how to make themselves more marketable. Whether you are looking to choose a new career, update your skill set, obtain employment or are just looking to become more self sufficient, a Center for New Directions in your area may be able to help.

Also, when should your child start talking? We talk to the professionals about how to make sure your child isn’t lagging behind in speech development.

We’ll also help you find ways to venture into the great outdoors using ISU’s Outdoor Adventure Center.

Early College

This episode explores how students can graduate from high school with an associate degree. Dual Enrollment for high school students across the state of Idaho allows a jump-start on their college education. From high school teachers certified to teach college courses to students stepping on to college campuses, there is more than one way to get ahead.

What do Idaho’s universities contribute to the state’s economy? This episode delves into an economic impact study conducted by ISU. The study reveals that a university not only contributes to the dollars and cents of the economy but provides many social benefits as well. This show also features a 23-year-old ISU junior elected to the School Board for Pocatello School District 25.
