IAS Scholarship Program Established in 1991

The Idaho Academy of Science has established a Scholarship Program at the each of the Academy's ten participating educational institutions: Albertson College of Idaho, Boise State University, College of Southern Idaho, Eastern Idaho Technical College, Idaho State University, Lewis-Clark State College, North Idaho College, Northwest Nazarene University, Ricks College (now BYU-Idaho) and University of Idaho. The program is administered through the financial aid department at each institution. Any Idaho resident student who is interested in an IAS scholarship should inquire at the financial aid office of the Idaho institution where he/she is attending or plans to attend. IAS scholarships are available only at the Idaho institutions listed above and only Idaho residents are eligible to receive them.

The purpose of the IAS Scholarship Program is two-fold: 1) To encourage Idaho's better students to study in Idaho and 2) to encourage such students to major in the sciences or science education. The members and leaders of the Idaho Academy of Science extend their sincere congratulations to the nearly 100 Idaho students who have been awarded an IAS scholarship since 1991!

How You Can Support the IAS Scholarship Program

You can support the IAS Scholarship Program by mailing your tax-deductible contribution to:

IDAHO ACADEMY OF SCIENCE
909 LUCILLE AVE.
POCATELLO, ID 83201

Make your check payable to: IDAHO ACADEMY OF SCIENCE. You will receive a receipt for tax purposes. If you would like to take advantage of the 50% state income tax credit available to Idaho residents, make your check payable to the Idaho college or university of your choice and then mail it to the IDAHO ACADEMY OF SCIENCE at the address above. Your check will be forwarded to the college or university by the Academy with instructions to make certain that it is credited to the Academy's Scholarship Program. You will receive a receipt for tax purposes directly from the college or university.

If you prefer to contribute DIRECTLY to a college or university, contact names and addresses are available.

Annual Distributions

Annually the total amounts of designated scholarship funds plus any appropriated from the general funds of the academy are distributed in equal amounts to all of the participating institutions with the following exception: funds given to the Academy's Scholarship Fund and designated specifically to one educational institution, whether or not that institution is a participating or institutional member of the Academy, is given entirely to the specified institution.

Management of Funds

One hundred percent of contributed funds are disbursed to the participating institutions for scholarships. That is, ALL funds designated to the IAS Scholarship Program are given to students and not used to administer the program. Any Scholarship Program administrative costs by the Academy or its members are paid from the general funds of the Academy. Only a minimal amount of money necessary to avoid service charges or to keep a current and active account is carried over from year to year.

The Treasurer of the Academy maintains a current and accurate record of funds designated to the Scholarship Program and reports the same annually to the members of the Academy.
